I love reading. Period. In fact, I love reading so much that I majored in English in college and spent four years devouring as much William Faulkner, Richard Wright, and Virginia Woolf as I could get my hands on. Fast forward fifteen years, two kids later, and a full-time job – and like many moms out there, reading anything heavy is the very last thing I want to do to relax. So as I have evolved through the various stages of my life, so have my reading interests.
I was introduced to “chick lit” by a friend of mine while I was on maternity leave with my firstborn and immediately found myself hooked on stories about female lead characters that are involved in complex relationships or juggle a full-time job while being a full-time mom to multiple children. While chick lit is not always the most thought provoking or politically correct form of literature, sometimes it is just what I need after a long day at the office and all my mommy duties have ceased with the kids peacefully sleeping.
Although it goes without saying that everyone should read a Faulkner novel at least once in their lives, I also recommend picking up any of the chick lit novels below if you are looking for a fun and relaxing way to unwind. Happy reading!
